Telecom SudParis is labeled Carnot Institute through the Institut Telecom at the first selection in 2006.
The Telecom & Digital Society Carnot Institute was founded on 5th April 2011.
"The existing Telecom-Eurecom Carnot Institute is expanding its core membership (the Institut Telecom and Eurecom, awarded Carnot status in 2006) to include Telecom Saint-Étienne and the École Nationale Supérieure de Physique in Strasbourg (two of the Institute Telecom's partner institutions), along with the LIX and CMAP information and communication technologies laboratories based at the Ecole Polytéchnique, and Strate College, an industrial design school.
The Telecom & Digital Society Carnot Institute thus includes almost 700 full time researchers and 1515 additional researchers (including 1000 PhD candidates), with a turnover of €44.6 million for partnered research operations in 2010 and a consolidated research budget of €71.6 million. This new Institute will build on the success of its predecessor, developing its status in the field of information and communications science and technology in France."

Telecom SudParis co-directs the Ubimedia laboratory, wich is common to the Institut Telecom and Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs:
Result of partnerships developed over many years within the framework of national and European projects, the laboratory aims to implement the vision in the medium / long term of two major academic and industrial society of communication: information and knowledge. It is characterized by the fusion of the means of communication, information and knowledge objects: the future is to "ubimédia". Hence the necessary continuity between communication and ubiquitous digital media to create a dense informational universe, cognitive and always interconnected. The individual mobile at the heart of this digital world, is in turn the transmitter, receiver and more importantly, what is innovative, the relay. Melting pot to make scientific concepts to applications, applications to business models and practices and practices to new concepts, the laboratory will result in a permanent, use and standardization of technologies for the services of the future.
