IMT Starter celebrates its 25th anniversary: a quarter century of innovation and entrepreneurship

Since 1999, the IMT Starter incubator has been supporting entrepreneurs in the creation and development of large-scale projects. For its 25th anniversary, it is celebrating a collective adventure made up of passion, innovation and shared successes.
A pioneering incubator
Created in 1999, IMT Starter is the joint incubator of Télécom SudParis, the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School and ENSIIE. It is one of the very first academic incubators in France. From the outset, it has welcomed visionary projects and positioned itself as a catalyst for digital entrepreneurship.
For engineering students at Télécom SudParis, IMT Starter is much more than an incubator: it is a place where they learn to transform ideas into viable projects, experiment with innovation and develop entrepreneurial skills that will accompany them throughout their careers.
A committed community
For 25 years, IMT Starter has continued to grow and reinvent itself. More than just a place of support, it has become a true community where students, researchers, entrepreneurs and experts come together.
The Challenge Projets d’Entreprendre (Entrepreneurial Projects Challenge), honorary loans and the Trophée Start-up Numérique (Digital Start-up Trophy) are just some of the initiatives that enable engineering students at Télécom SudParis to put their knowledge into practice, test their ideas in a real-world environment and tackle the challenges of the entrepreneurial world. Over the years, more than 300 start-ups have been supported, generating more than 4,500 jobs and raising hundreds of millions of euros, proof of the concrete and lasting impact of our incubator.
Among these start-ups is StreamRoot, an expert in optimising online video distribution, co-founded by Pierre-Louis Théron. He was the winner of the Digital Start-up Trophy and says: "The support provided by IMT Starter has been very useful to us. The monthly feedback and assistance from its team has enabled us to move forward more quickly. In particular, the fact that we were confronted with our difficulties was really beneficial.
Other start-ups supported by our incubator include UAVIA, a specialist in civilian drones; Share ID, an expert in cybersecurity; Recommerce, a leader in mobile phone recycling; Morfo, a technology start-up that enables large-scale reforestation; and Slimpay, a pioneer in subscription payment solutions. These start-ups have generated hundreds of millions in revenue and funds raised, illustrating the gems that have emerged from IMT Starter.
A springboard to the future
IMT Starter does not just look back: it also prepares for the future. With its Summer School, launched in 2018, the incubator continues to support young talent in structuring and launching innovative projects. Since 2025, it has also strengthened its presence by moving into Station F as part of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, at the heart of the French and international entrepreneurial ecosystem. The entrepreneurial spirit is cultivated, passed on and reinvented to meet the challenges of tomorrow, offering engineering students at Télécom SudParis a real laboratory for developing creativity, leadership and initiative.
25 years of passion to celebrate
On 7 October, the IMT Starter community will gather in Paris to celebrate this quarter-century milestone. An evening to remember past successes, reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new generations and imagine together the projects that will shape the next 25 years.
