Doctoral training

Telecom SudParis participates in major challenges for the Institute Telecom, a major player of European research in Information technology and communication. For 20 years, the school offers a doctoral training to candidates wishing to progress in a high scientific level environment.

147 doctoral students, 28 doctoral thesis have been defended in 2010.

Empowered to grant the doctorate by the french Ministry of National Education, Telecom & Management SudParis grants doctoral degrees jointly with the following universities:

  1. Université Pierre et Marie Curie, in frame of doctoral schools: 
     
  2. Université d'Evry-Val-d'Essonne, in frame of doctoral school S&I (Sciences & Ingéniérie).
     
  3. Université de Lille 1, in frame of doctoral school SPI (École Doctorale Sciences pour l'ingénieur ED 072).

Doctoral students enrolled in other schools can also be accommodated within the research departments of Telecom SudParis.

Thesis are held in the education and research departments, or in public or industrial organizations, with which Telecom & Management SudParis is bound by convention.

Proceeding of Doctoral studies

The length of the PhD is generaly three years ("arrêté du 7 août 2006 relatif à la formation doctorale" - NOR : MENS0602083A).

An additional year may be granted by exception. This exemption is granted by the director of the doctoral school at the reasoned request of the applicant, after consultation with the supervisor and approval by the Research and Doctoral Training Department of Telecom & Management SudParis.

During his thesis, the doctoral student must take courses taught by doctoral schools. They enable him to obtain ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) required to obtain the authorization of a thesis.

Theses are held in research departments or in public or industrial institutions, with which Telecom SudParis is bound by convention.

Financial Aid

Funding sources are numerous. During the three years of study, the doctoral student may have different types of financing:

  • research allowance,
  • work's contract,
  • industrial agreements for research training (CIFRE in French) that allow a young Bac+5 to make its thesis with a laboratory while working for the company,
  • French scholarships (eg scholarship on social criteria or loan of honor) or international,
  • research contracts funded by the French and European agencies, by business or directly by the Institut Telecom or the Fondation Telecom.
